Our History
The Origins

The company was established in October 1971 as a public limited company with two shareholders: French firm Tréfimétaux, a subsidiary of Péchiney, and American company Kawecki Berylco Industries (KBI), each holding a 50% stake. The company’s original name was Tréfimétaux Berylco SA (TMB), with headquarters in Paris and a production unit in Couëron, near Nantes.
In the early years, all production was subcontracted. Gradually, TMB invested in the Tréfimétaux site in Couëron (Loire-Atlantique) to produce strip from billets supplied by the parent companies. Bar, wire, and ingot production continued to be subcontracted.
In 1973, TMB acquired Deutsche Berylco GmbH (DBG), the German subsidiary of KBI.
In 1978, KBI sold its entire capital to Cabot Corporation.
In 1979, Tréfimétaux sold its shares to Cabot Corporation, making the company a wholly owned subsidiary through Cabot International Capital Corporation. The company was renamed Berylco-Cabot Métaux Spéciaux (BCMS).
In 1985, BCMS relocated its headquarters to Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris.
The Strength of the NGK Group
In 1986, Japanese group NGK Insulators Ltd, headquartered in Nagoya, acquired BCMS from Cabot Corporation, which had decided to divest all its metallurgical businesses. The company was renamed NGK Berylco France. The name “Berylco”—a contraction of “Beryllium” and “Copper”—has since become a well-known term among copper metallurgy experts.
In December 1996, the company relocated its Paris-area headquarters to Couëron to enhance operational efficiency.
