Electronic Equipment

Berylco alloys are essential in electronic connectors and contactors used in telecommunications and computing.

Berylco beryllium copper alloys offer the highest combination of strength, electrical conductivity, resistance to stress relaxation at elevated temperatures, and formability among all copper-based alloys.

This is why Berylco alloys are widely used on circuit boards and in mobile devices—for battery connectors, board-to-board connectors, antenna contacts, SIM card contacts, jack-type connectors, or speaker contacts—where their “spring effect” ensures reliable contact retention throughout the device’s lifespan.

Tablets, smartphones, and electronic devices typically contain numerous strategic beryllium copper contacts.

Electromagnetic Shielding

Electrical and electronic circuits often need protection from electromagnetic interference (RFI/EMI) emitted by external sources that could disrupt their operation. At the same time, these circuits must also avoid emitting radiation that could interfere with nearby components.

Shielding is often achieved using metal enclosures, which must maintain strong mechanical and electrical contact with the circuit board and other components. High electrical conductivity is especially important for shielding high-frequency radiation.

Beryllium copper is an ideal material for this type of application, as it delivers excellent mechanical performance while ensuring effective shielding across an extremely wide frequency range. As a result, beryllium copper is used in mobile phones and industrial shielded enclosures—such as fingerstock components in RF shielding doors.

Undersea Repeaters

The NGK Group offers beryllium copper-based components for undersea repeaters. These parts must withstand extreme conditions of corrosion, pressure, and temperature—making beryllium copper the material of choice for high-performance, long-life telecommunication systems beneath the ocean.
