Beryllium
Other Beryllium Components
NGK is capable of manufacturing various pure beryllium parts, such as tiles, spheres or pebbles, for a wide range of applications.
Nuclear Energy and Defense
Beryllium metal is also indispensable for the success of nuclear fusion reactor projects, a safe, low-carbon, and waste-free energy source of the future. Beryllium is used, for instance, in the ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) project in Cadarache, France
Significant quantities of beryllium will also be required for the DEMO project in Japan (Nuclear Fusion Demonstration Reactor). Beryllium is the ideal material, acting as both a neutron multiplier and moderator, while withstanding extreme conditions of temperature and corrosion. NGK supplies high-quality beryllium pebbles.
Aerospace
Beryllium is also essential in the aerospace industry, used in upper lightweight structural components of launch vehicles, as well as in guidance systems and gyroscopes.
For such demanding applications where safety is critical, no other material can match beryllium’s performance, precision, and reliability.
Non-Magnetic Tools
Maintenance tools and components made of beryllium metal are used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems, where extremely strong magnetic fields require the use of non-magnetic materials.
Loudspeakers
In the music industry, beryllium is used in high-end speaker tweeters due to its exceptional stiffness — seven times that of titanium — enabling outstanding acoustic performance.
